Trask is likely a temporary signing to hold down depth at the position throughout the preseason as current No. 3 quarterback Haynes King (hamstring) recovers from the injury he sustained during Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals. Trask will likely see the field against the Bills next Saturday after Kenny Pickett and the starters get a few drives in. Panthers' Bryce Young: Will play in preseason opener
Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Sunday that Young and the Panthers starters will play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, Kassidy Hill of the team's official site reports.
Canales added that the starters will get about 10-to-20 reps in Buffalo. Young, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, is coming off the best year of his three-year career. Across 17 regular-season games in 2025, he completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding 216 yards and two scores on 54 carries. The fifth-year option on Young's rookie contract was picked up for the 2027 season, and it looks like any contract negotiations between the 25-year-old quarterback and the Panthers won't take place until after the 2026 campaign.

Panthers' Haynes King: Nursing hamstring injury
King picked up a hamstring injury during Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Cardinals, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
King played well in Thursday's exhibition game, completing 21 of 34 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns while turning three carries into 39 yards and a score in Carolina's 33-30 victory. However, it appears King tweaked his hamstring in the process, which could prompt the Panthers to bring in another quarterback like Kyle Trask and Jack Plummer for the rest of training camp, per Joe Person of The Athletic. King entered training camp listed as the Panthers' QB3 behind starter Bryce Young and backup Kenny Pickett.

Panthers' Thomas Incoom: Tallies three tackles in HOF Game
Incoom (shoulder) recorded three tackles (two solo) during the Panthers' 33-30 win over the Cardinals in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
Incoom was cleared to play in Thursday's exhibition game after fully recovering from offseason shoulder surgery that he underwent in June, and he played a total of 42 snaps (36 on defense, six on special teams). Panthers' Jimmy Horn: Paces Carolina with four catches
Horn caught four passes on seven targets for 44 yards during the Panthers' 33-30 win over the Cardinals in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game. He also returned one kickoff for 25 yards.
Horn caught passes of 17 and 15 yards from Haynes King on the Panthers' final drive of the second quarter, which helped set up a 33-yard field goal from Ryan Fitzgerald. Horn added two more catches in the second half, including a 12-yard pass late in the fourth quarter that set up the Panthers deep in enemy territory and eventually led to a five-yard, game-winning rushing touchdown by King as time expired. Horn was a sixth-round selection of the Panthers in the 2025 NFL Draft but didn't see many touches during his rookie campaign, finishing with 11 catches (on 15 targets) for 108 yards and eight carries for 69 yards over 14 regular-season games. Xavier Legette figures to be Carolina's WR3 behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker this season, but Horn could see some additional work on special teams as a returner and could earn a larger role for himself on offense with a strong training camp and preseason. The Panthers' next preseason game takes place Saturday, Aug. 15 against the Bills in Buffalo.

Panthers' David Moore: Logs one catch in HOF Game
Moore caught one pass on two targets for five yards during Carolina's 33-30 win over Arizona in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
Moore's lone catch came early in the second quarter, and he finished Thursday's game having played 18 total snaps (17 on offense, one on special teams). The 2017 seven-rounder spent most of last year on injured reserve due to a dislocated elbow and appeared in only four regular-season games before being a healthy scratch during the Panthers' NFC wild-card loss against the Rams. Moore is competing against Brycen Tremayne, Casey Washington, Ja'Seem Reed and John Metchie for a depth spot on the Panthers' 53-man roster.

Wallace underwent surgery to address a shoulder issue after an injury ended his year early in 2025, but he was able to suit up for the unofficial start of the preseason. Panthers' Haynes King: Shines in Hall of Fame Game
King completed 21 of 34 passes for 180 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions during the Panthers' 33-30 win over the Cardinals in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game. He added three carries for 39 yards and a score.
Kenny Pickett was under center for the Panthers' first three drives before the keys were turned over to King in the second quarter. King got to work right away, leading Carolina on a 10-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Seem Reed before adding a five-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Tyus on the second play of the fourth quarter. King made one clutch play after another during the Panthers' final drive, including a 26-yard scramble on third-and-14, and his five-yard run on the game's final play resulted in the game-winning touchdown for Carolina. It was an impressive performance out of King, who signed with the Panthers in late April as an undrafted free agent after his name wasn't called during the 2026 NFL Draft. Although Pickett is the favorite to win the backup QB role behind Bryce Young, King could steal that job away if he can continue to play well in training camp and preseason games. The Panthers' next exhibition game takes place Saturday, Aug. 15 against the Bills.

Panthers' John Metchie: Candidate for No. 3 receiver job?
Metchie is competing for a depth role in Carolina, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
With rookie third-round pick Chris Brazzell (knee) ruled out for the season, Metchie might have a chance to push Xavier Legette for the No. 3 job, though this report suggests Metchie is also on the roster bubble. Metchie and Legette offer contrasting styles, which could work in Metchie's favor on a team where the top two wide receivers (Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker) look a lot more like Legette. At 5-foot-11, 187 pounds, Metchie figures to take a lot of snaps in the slot if he ends up earning a role in the Carolina offense. He recorded three receptions on six targets for 38 yards and a 36-yard kick return Thursday night in the Hall of Fame Game against Arizona.

Panthers' AJ Dillon: Impresses in HOF Game
Dillon rushed three times for 18 yards and a touchdown and secured his only target for 18 yards in the Panthers' 33-30 preseason win over the Cardinals on Thursday.
Dillon's first three touches came in consecutive fashion early in the second quarter, as he rattled off his 18-yard reception and then gained four yards on his first run of the night. The veteran back followed it up with a one-yard touchdown run on the next play, and his final rush attempt of the night resulted in a game-long 13-yard run to start the following possession. Dillon was the second back in the game behind Trevor Etienne, and the former will look to continue making a strong impression in the Panthers' second preseason game on the road against the Bills on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Panthers' Ja'Tavion Sanders: Three catches in preseason opener
Sanders (ankle) brought in all three targets for 13 yards in the Panthers' 33-30 preseason win over the Cardinals on Thursday.
Sanders started the game and recorded his first two receptions on the Panthers' first pair of plays from scrimmage. The 2024 fourth-round pick has been solid in a rotational role over his first two seasons, posting a combined 62-532-2 line on 77 targets over 29 regular-season games. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Sanders has a chance to overtake Tommy Tremble for the No. 1 tight-end role, although it's possible head coach Dave Canales opts to continue utilizing both players in a 1A-1B type of arrangement again.

Panthers' Trevor Etienne: Draws start in preseason opener
Etienne started the Panthers' 33-30 preseason win over the Cardinals on Thursday, rushing four times for 12 yards and bringing in his only target for minus-1 yard.
With Chuba Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks both getting the night off, Etienne was the first back on the field for the Panthers and logged touches on each of the first three drives. He netted 12 yards via back-to-back runs on Carolina's third possession, but he was ultimately outperformed by both Miles Davis and veteran AJ Dillon after exiting the game. Etienne appeared in all 17 regular-season games as a rookie in 2025 and contributed 107 scrimmage yards, but he also added value on special teams with 733 kickoff-return yards and 163 yards on punt returns. Etienne will continue attempting to make a case for a role behind Hubbard and Brooks in Carolina's second preseason game, which unfolds Saturday, Aug. 15 on the road against the Bills.

Panthers' Xavier Legette: Deemed healthy
Coach Dave Canales said Thursday following the Hall of Fame Game that Legette (neck) "feels great" and is healthy, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
While Legette didn't play in the exhibition opener Thursday night against Arizona, Canales said the wide receiver is "back" and ready to return after being diagnosed with a neck stinger earlier in the week when he was carted off the practice field. With rookie Chris Brazzell (knee) already ruled out for the 2026 season, Legette will compete for WR3 duties in Carolina. He's been a disappointment through two seasons, totaling 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns across 31 regular-season games since being selected No. 32 overall in the 2024 Draft.
